About Ayşe Erkmen:

Ayşe Erkmen, born in Istanbul, lives and works in Berlin and Istanbul. Erkmen's projects, which connect with the social and physical environment they emerge from, make previously unnoticed features visible by intervening in an existing structure or situation and reversing it. Her site-specific interventions often intertwine art and life by demanding audience participation. Ayşe Erkmen graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Sculpture Department. In 1994 and 1995, she participated in the DAAD artist program (Berliner Künstlerprogramm) and spent a year in Berlin. Erkmen taught at Kassel Art Academy in 1998–99 and at Frankfurt Städelschule between 2000 and 2007. She continued to teach at Münster Art Academy until 2016. Ayşe Erkmen's works have been exhibited in many national and international galleries, museums, and biennials over the past 30 years.
